In engineering disciplines it is drummed into the students that there is a difference between accuracy and precision.
I see this categorical distinction as serving those disciplines well; we may transcribe the quantity of a single number, but we equally need to understand the meaning in a context having a larger set of input facts.
I also observe that frankly there are some disciplines such as software development the web, bias peddling on television and the web where some enforcement of that approach would serve us well.
