The reason violence has unparalleled effectiveness in getting people's attention, is partly because of the unexpected nature and the premeditation on the part of the perpetrators. The failures occur when an attachment is created to a special individual, such as a demagogue like Donald J Trump, a clown like Boris Johnson or a thug like Vladimir Putin.
